Douro Valley
The Douro Valley is one of the oldest wine regions in the world, with hand-built terraces stepping down to the river for mile after mile. Small villages, family quintas and riverside railway stations set the scale of daily life. It is deeply peaceful, especially outside the harvest, and Porto is under two hours away by train.
